Donvier 1-Quart Ice Cream Maker

The Donvier ice cream maker is another of the frozen bowl variety of ice cream machines but one which requires you to turn the handle instead of having a motor do the work for you.

Now, that's not as bad as it may sound as it only requires about a dozen or so turns over the course of the 20 to 30 minutes it takes to knock up a one quart batch of ice cream with this machine. And in fact turning the handle manually gives you better control and feel for the consistency and texture of the final product.

On the other hand, the size of the tub at one quart and the fact you do the turning yourself does kind of dictate that the Donvier ice cream maker is only aimed at occasional ice cream makers. Unless, of course, you are thinking along the lines that the calories burned producing the stuff goes some way to compensating for the indulgence of eating beautiful, rich, home made ice cream.

The usual restriction applies to this type of ice cream maker, you need to chill the mixing pot in your freezer up to 12 hours before you plan on making ice cream. Most people overcome this by just leaving the pot in the freezer all the time and then when the fancy does come over them for some homemade ice cream, its ready and waiting to go.
